Primary forests protect the vast majority of the planet’s terrestrial species and its largest terrestrial carbon stocks: there is no solution to climate change or the global extinction crisis without primary forests.
Primary forests are also very often also the homelands of Indigenous Peoples and vital to Indigenous cultures, rights and traditional livelihoods.
Primary Forests are truly irreplaceable ecosystems: irrecoverable by 2050, essential to maintaining a habitable planet, and central to the success of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change – and most international environmental agreements.
